Old Settlers Days

Every year, Hillsboro (my hometown) has a homecoming of sorts called Old Settlers' Days. It's always the 3rd Wednesday and Thursday of August--don't ask me why it's during the middle of the week and not on the weekend because I've never figured it out. Anyway, there are carnival rides, parades and tons of carnival food (my particular favorite the corndog from the yellow stand aka the "pronto pup"--delightful!). Jake, Andrew, and I, along with Aunt Meg, Momo and Papa went all day Thursday while Josh joined us later Thursday night after he got off work (just a side note--Josh drove home from Hillsboro early Thursday morning, drove to Earth City for work, drove back to Hillsboro from Earth City after work for the "big parade" and then we all drove home late Thursday night--what a great hubby and daddy, right?).

Anyway, there were only a few small kid rides that Jake could go on but the only things he was particularly interested in were the bounce house and the horses. It took a little prying to get him to either but finally he did and he thought it was great. I think we spent almost $20 on just bounce house tickets--he just kept going back for more!! Notice in the pics with Jake on the horse that he had a tight grip on Papa Dane's shirt at first--after the first few minutes, however, he was screaming "yaw, yaw, giddy up"!!
